At PJ Gates & Automation (formerly Profix Joinery) we design and build made-to-measure hardwood gates, and we already fit them for customers across London, including Greater London. Every gate is made by hand in our Belfast workshop from solid Iroko, using traditional mortice and tenon joints, then delivered and installed by our own team. With more than 15 years in business, we know what it takes to make a gate that looks right on day one and still feels solid years later.

Why we build in Iroko
Iroko is a dense, durable hardwood with a warm golden-brown colour that deepens over time. It is naturally oily, which helps it stand up to rain and changing seasons, and it is stable, so it is less prone to twisting and movement than many softer timbers. That makes it a great choice for a gate that is opened and closed every day.
We join our frames with mortice and tenon joints rather than relying on screws and brackets alone. It is the traditional way to build a strong frame, and one of the main reasons our gates stay square and true.

Driveway and pedestrian gates
- Swing driveway gates: single or double gates that open inwards or outwards, ideal where there is room for the gates to swing.
- Sliding driveway gates: a good fit for sloping driveways or short frontages where a swing gate would not clear.
- Pedestrian gates: side and front gates that can be made to match your driveway gates for a joined-up look.
We now make metal gates as well as timber, so if you would like a metal gate, or a mix of hardwood and metal, just ask.
Gate automation
Any driveway gate we build can be automated, so you can open it without leaving the car.
- Proximity control: the gate opens as you approach.
- Keypad entry: handy for family, visitors and deliveries.
- Phone control: open and close your gate from your mobile.
We supply and fit automation with our own gates only, planned alongside the gate itself so the motors, hinges and gate weight all work together. We do not automate gates made by others.
In London, our own staff install the automation as well as the gates. We do not use subcontractors or local partners. More about automation.

- Survey. Our team travels to London to survey your entrance in person. We measure up and check the posts, ground and any slope. The survey is free.
- Design and quote. We send you a drawing and a written quote by email or WhatsApp. Your quote stays valid for 8 weeks.
- Made in Belfast. Your gate is handmade in our Belfast workshop.
- Delivered and installed. Our own team brings your gate over and fits it anywhere in London, including Greater London. Every gate and every automation system is fitted by our own staff, never by subcontractors or local partners.

Do you really install gates in London when you are based in Belfast?
Yes. We make every gate in our Belfast workshop, our team travels to London to survey your entrance in person, and our own team delivers and installs your gate. We cover all of London, including Greater London.
How much does a hardwood gate cost?
Every gate is made to measure, so the price depends on size, design, gate type and automation. We will give you a clear written quote after the survey.
Why Iroko rather than softwood?
Iroko is a dense, naturally durable hardwood that copes well with the weather and is less prone to movement, so it suits a gate that is used every day.
Can you automate an existing gate?
No. We supply and fit automation with our own gates only, so we do not automate gates made by others. If you would like an automated gate, we can build you a new one with automation designed in from the start.
Do you make metal gates too?
Yes. As well as timber we now make metal gates, and we can combine the two.
